Begin with the decision the packaging must support
The best specification starts with context: the product, sales channel, presentation moment and delivery destination. These constraints help the structure, materials and finishing work as one system.
A reference image is enough to start. Dimensions, dielines and artwork can be developed after the first conversation.
Compare options in context
A more elaborate construction is not automatically better. Product protection, assembly time, shipping volume, presentation and intended reuse should be reviewed together.
Questions worth asking
- How will the customer open and handle the pack?
- Does the insert protect the product without unnecessary material?
- Which finish creates the most value for the brand?
Use sampling as a decision checkpoint
A physical sample is the clearest way to review fit, opening behavior, color, finish and assembly before production approval. Document comments against the same sample version so changes remain traceable.
MOQ, timing, certification and performance claims should always be confirmed against the final construction and project specification.
